Transform Haringey is Launched

The Bishop of Edmonton, the Rt. Rev. Peter Wheatley, along with over 40 ministers from a wide spectrum of churches, attended the breakfast launch of Transform Haringey on Friday June 10th.

Bishop Peter opened in prayer and said that Transform Haringey was an exciting initiative and that he would be encouraging engagement from the Anglican community in the borough.

The wonderful diversity of the church in Haringey was well represented as leaders from Anglican, Baptist, Salvation Army, Evangelical, AOG, Pentecostal, URC and a host of independent congregations attended the launch, held at Freedom’s Ark in Tottenham. Many other congregations, including Catholic and Methodist, have already responded to the initiative indicating their participation.

Transform Haringey is an initiative aimed at impacting our community through Christian unity. It seeks to facilitate a greater friendship, awareness and working together of the Christian congregations and groups in the borough. Plans currently include the publication of a Christian Directory for Haringey; a two-day conference in the autumn which will explore the issues and possibilities of greater unity; followed by a 40-day season of prayer for the borough, encouraging Christians everywhere to join in by using a freely distributed prayer diary.

At the launch last week Rev. Brendan Munro of Bless Haringey spoke of the importance of Jesus’ prayer in John 17:23 and the great need to see not just civil peace come to our borough, but the Prince of Peace. Rev. Nims Obunge of the Peace Alliance said it was time for us all to pray and act in unison to see Haringey transformed. Tim Rawe of Pray Haringey made an audio-visual presentation on the aims of Transform Haringey.

Media packs were distributed containing information on the Transform Haringey conference, the Directory and the 40 days of prayer.
